About This Plant

Garnet Japanese Maple is one of the most celebrated weeping dissectums in cultivation, honored with the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit and the Award of Merit at Boskoop, Netherlands, where it originated. The pendulous, umbrella-shaped canopy drapes deeply cut garnet-red foliage that deepens to rich ruby through summer and blazes vivid purple-red in fall. Color holds best in full sun. A slow, steady grower that builds a stunning landscape presence over time. Plant in well-drained, acidic soil and avoid heavy mulch directly on the root crown. Acer genus hosts Imperial Moth larvae, samaras feed birds and small mammals, and spring flowers provide early-season nectar for native bees.
