About This Plant
Acer Griseum 'Paper Bark Maple is valued in the landscape for character, form, and seasonal interest.
Paperbark Maple is one of the most refined small ornamental maples , exfoliating cinnamon-orange bark peels in tissue-thin curls year-round, with a quiet trifoliate leaf and reliable red fall color.
Full sun to part shade suits this species. Plant in moist, well-drained, neutral to acidic soil. Hardy USDA Zone 4 to 8. Slow-growing and long-lived. Watch for verticillium wilt; avoid heavy pruning. Adaptable to most well-drained sites.
For a Pacific Northwest native counterpart in scale and bloom, consider Amelanchier alnifolia (Saskatoon / Western Serviceberry) for white spring flowers and edible blue berries, or Cornus nuttallii (Pacific Dogwood) for show-stopping spring bracts in light shade.
