Collection: Plants Native to Mexico

Mexico holds one of the most plant-diverse landscapes on the planet, from sky-island pine forests to coastal desert to high cloud forest. A surprising number of those plants do beautifully in Pacific Northwest gardens, especially in sun-baked corners and sharply drained beds.

This collection gathers plants in our catalog with deep native roots in Mexico: architectural agaves and yuccas, the rosette geometry of echeveria and manfreda, the firework spikes of hesperaloe and beschorneria, and the bright summer-into-fall color of dahlia, cosmos, and tagetes (the marigolds that pollinators love and gardeners use as living mulch).

Most of these plants want full sun and excellent drainage. Many tolerate light frost. A few of the most tender deserve a sheltered spot or a pot you can move under cover for the worst of winter.
